There’s an old adage that you can tell a man’s true character by who shows up at his funeral. A young man who works at a funeral parlor does just that — he places his own obituary in the local newspaper and only two people attend. A heroin addict he’s never met…and his ex-girlfriend from ten years before. Who will be at your funeral?
Dead Awake is a seductive supernatural thriller. A mysterious tragedy shatters lives a decade ago and sets them on a path to uncover the truth that lies between the living and the dead.
Dylan, a young man working at a funeral parlor, is trying to unravel a mystery that shattered his life ten years earlier. After faking his own funeral to see who will show up, he befriends a mysterious street junkie and is reunited with an old love from his past. The lives of these three characters are transformed by supernatural forces as Dylan discovers that no one is who they seem to be.
Dead Awake is a 2010 mystery film starring Nick Stahl, Amy Smart, Rose McGowan, Ben Marten, Kim Grimaldi, Rachel Storey, Andrea Leon, Shane Simmons, Britt Slater, Rachel Storey, James Serpento, Andrea Leon and Justin Urich. The film was previously titled Dylan’s Wake.
Filming took place in the Fall of 2009, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was released in December 2010 to mixed reviews. Mark Olsen of The Los Angeles Times said in his review; “Though the performers gamely try to make the most of what little they have to work with, the film is murky to look at and unfocused in its storytelling. “Dead Awake” is a deadly snore.” Positive marks came from the NYC Movie Guru, who called the film “an intriguing blend of mystery, suspense, drama and supernatural thrills that slightly loses steam as its trust in the audience’s intelligence wanes.”
