Amy Movie - Amy Winehouse Documentary

Taglines: The girl behind the name.

The narrative is focused on the life of British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, who was found dead on 23 July 2011 at the age of 27 from alcohol poisoning at her home in Camden, North London.

The film starts with a 14 year-old Winehouse singing along with other long-time friend Juliette Ashby at her friend, Lauren Gilbert’s birthday party captured at a home in Southgate in 1998. The rest of the film shows the songwriter’s cut-short life from her early years when she was a child, to her music career from the commercial success through her debut album Frank in 2003, the number one album of the 21st Century Back to Black in 2006, to her troubled relationships, self-harm, bulimia nervosa, the controversial media attention and her downfall with drug & alcohol addiction all until her untimely death. Winehouse is featured throughout the film talking about her early influences and how she felt about fame, love and her music career.

Kapadia conducted more than 100 interviews from Winehouse’s family and friends that combine to provide a compelling narrative around the life of the star and is billed as the singer in her own words. The film shows extensive unseen footage and unheard tracks Winehouse had recorded the previous years before she died, as the director promised.
