Captive Movie Storyline. On March 11, 2005, Brian Nichols escapes from the Fulton County courthouse in Atlanta, during a trial for rape case. During escaping, he murders the judge presiding over his trial, Rowland Barnes, as well as court reporter Julie Brandau. He also shoots Sergeant Hoyt Teasley while escaping from the prison, and then Agent David G. Wilhelm at his home. Nichols then kidnaps a young women, Ashley Smith to use as a hostage. Smith gets through this time inspired by Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life while Nichols searches for redeption.

In this fact-based thriller, a single mother struggling with drug addiction is randomly taken hostage in her own apartment by a man on the run from the law for breaking out of jail and murdering the judge assigned to his case – only to realize before the climactic finish that they have actually saved each other’s lives.

Captive is an American crime-drama thriller film directed by Jerry Jameson and written by Brian Bird and Reinhard Denke, based on the non-fiction book An Unlikely Angel by Ashley Smith.

A true story about Brian Nichols, who escapes from the Fulton County courthouse in Atlanta on March 11, 2005 and holds Smith as a hostage, the film stars David Oyelowo, Kate Mara, Michael K. Williams, Leonor Varela, Jessica Oyelowo and Mimi Rogers. Filming began in October 2013 in North Carolina. The film was released worldwide on September 18, 2015 by Paramount Pictures.
