The Fall Guy (2024)

The Fall Guy (2024)

The Fall Guy movie storyline. The Fall Guy is based on an 80s TV show of the same name that follows a Hollywood stunt actor who moonlights as a bounty hunter, using his skills to go from stuntman to lawman under the cover of darkness.

In this movie remake, Gosling plays Colt Seavers, an out-of-work stuntman who gets brought onto the directorial debut of his ex to stand in for its douchebag star. When that A-lister goes missing, Colt has to get into the reeds of Hollywood’s underbelly to find him, using his skills as a stuntman to save the day – and the movie.

Gosling is the main guy, so to speak, but the top-billing roster doesn’t end with him. The movie is directed by David Leitch, a former Hollywood stuntman-turned-director (he was Brad Pitt’s stuntman, in case you didn’t know), so this project basically seems tailor-made for him.

Speaking of his credentials, the film’s producer Kelly McCormick said “David coming from stunts, and telling a story about a stuntman who is coming into his own through having to investigate a crime. [It’s] incredibly special in the sense that we get to do,” adding “And it just feels like we’re paying homage to the stunt community and to, really, cinema and those of us who make the movies. And it’s sort of a love letter to the industry.”

But back in front of the camera, Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be playing the diva that Gosling has to break bones for and then save. It’s a reunion for Johnson and Leitch, who worked together most recently on Bullet Train, and if the tone of this movie is the same as that, then there’ll be plenty of fun riffing.

Elsewhere, Emily Blunt is also on board playing Gosling’s ex-turned-employer, the director of the movie that’s falling apart thanks to its star going walkabout. There’s also Stephanie Hsu, fresh off Oscar nom glory for Everything Everywhere All At Once, Black Panther’s Winston Duke and Ted Lasso’s towering Amazon Hannah Waddingham.
