Written and directed by Dominic Savage, Close to You focuses on the drama of Sam’s homecoming. Returning to his small town near Lake Ontario forces him to confront long-buried feelings about his family and an old friend (Hillary Baack). The film yearns to capture the stages of this emotional exhumation, but a clunky screenplay makes for a less affecting watch.
Close to You is a 2023 independent film directed by Dominic Savage and starring Elliot Page. Savage and Page wrote the story together and both acted as producers. Filming was conducted using a highly improvised style. Shot by cinematographer Catherine Lutes, principal photography took place in Canada and wrapped by June 2023.
The film had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2023, and received a gala screening at the 2023 Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival. In January 2024, Greenwich Entertainment acquired US distribution rights to the film.
