Felicità movie storyline. This is the story of a broken family, of egotistic and manipulative parents, a two-headed monster that devours every hope of freedom on the part of the children. Desirè is the only one who can save her brother Claudio and will go on fighting against everything and everyone in the name of the only love she knows, in pursuit of a bit of happiness.
Felicità (Happiness) is a 2023 Italian comedy-drama film co-written and directed by Micaela Ramazzotti, at her feature film debut. The film premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, in the Orizzonti Extra section, where it won the Audience Award. It was released in Italian cinemas on September 21, 2023.
Director’s Statement
Felicità is the first film I’ve directed and I’m so proud and honored that Venice is the first festival to accept it and treat it so well. The story, which is in part inspired by something true, is that of a dysfunctional family, of a psychiatric treatment, of an unbalanced relationship, of educational and social mediocrity and of how the spirit of the Italy of these years has an impact on the people least equipped to deal with it. It took some nerve for me to play the part of Desirè, because it is certainly not an edifying portrait of a virtuous woman. On the contrary, she is decidedly imperfect, naïve, a bit deceitful and even pathetic.
