Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist is the direct sequel to the Left Behind (2014). It began filming on November 8th, 2021 and is also being referred as Left Behind 2. There is a limited theatrical release date on January 26th, 2023 to run for four days through January 29th as part of Fathom Events.
It is directed by Kevin Sorbo who also stars as Rayford Steele. In addition, his wife Sam and son Braeden will have roles in the film. The screenplay is written by Paul Lalonde, Jessica Parker, and John Patus. Andy Lyon is the executive producer, alongside producers John Duffy, Scott J. Jones, Michael Walker, and Jason Wan Lim.
It takes place six months after the events of the 2014 film by adapting the third book Nicolae: Rise of the Antichrist, but the cast is entirely different from all five previous productions. It also have some differences from the source material with the trailer released on November 22, 2022 hinting at a ‘second wave of vanishings’ which implies the possibility of two different Raptures occurring and the one world currency possibly being called “Eden Pay”.
It will be the first film produced by Pureflix, which plans to continue the series as they have the original trilogy and Vanished: Left Behind – The Next Generation available for streaming. It is also being coproduced by Cloud Ten Creative and Amcomri Entertainment.
