Eight college friends head to a “Haunted Rental” in a remote town for Halloween weekend. There, they play the game rumored to have caused the deaths of seven teenagers decades earlier, Truth or Dare. What starts out as vodka induced fun, quickly turns serious when the dares become sickeningly dangerous and the truths threaten to tear the group apart.
When players attempt to refuse the increasingly challenging tasks, they’re met with deadly consequences, quickly discovering: you must do the dare, or the dare does you. As the death toll mounts, the remaining players must race against the clock to outrun, outsmart and outlast the simple game of Truth or Dare.
Blumhouse continues its creepy parade of deceptively simple and irresistible horror flicks. The latest? About a bunch of teens who get trapped in a contagious game of Truth or Dare. It’s called…Truth or Dare. Like a lot of horror movies involving teens, it all starts on One Fateful Night, when a bunch of friends decide to play a game and Everything Goes Wrong.
That game is the titular Truth or Dare match, only something else is playing—a weird, almost contagious, supernatural entity that can possess the participants and punishes them for lying or turning down dares. And by “punish,” we mean “gruesomely murder as it continues to haunt them long after the game is over, because the game is never over in a horror movie, silly.”
Truth or Dare is a 2017 American supernatural horror television film co-written by Thommy Hutson and Ethan Lawrence and directed by Nick Simon. The film stars Cassandra Scerbo, Brytni Sarpy, Mason Dye, Harvey Guillén, Alexxis Lemire, Luke Baines, Ricardo Hoyos, Christina Masterson, and Heather Langenkamp.
The plot focuses on a group of eight college students who rent a house haunted by a vengeful spirit who lost a game of truth or dare several years earlier. The group decide to play the game and are forced to follow through or face deadly consequences. The film premiered on Syfy on October 8, 2017, and was met to generally positive reviews. As of February 2019, the film has grossed $3,417 from DVD and Blu-ray sales.
On March 16, 2017, Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures announced Jeff Wadlow would be directing Truth or Dare and Lucy Hale will be starring in the film. On May 24, 2017 it was announced that Tyler Posey, Violett Beane, Nolan Gerard Funk, Hayden Szeto and Sophia Ali would co-star in the film. In July 2017, Aurora Perrineau has enjoined to the film. The next month, Tom Choi was cast in the film. On October 16, 2017, it was announced that Sam Lerner was cast in the film.
