The film is the sequel to Beetlejuice (1988) and stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe. Beetlejuice 2 is set to be theatrically released on September 6, 2024, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
The inspiration behind video
The presence of one of Delia’s weird Beetlejuice statues on the set of Beetlejuice 2 is no surprise, as it’s already been emphasized that the new movie will restore the magic by reaching back to the original. Not only does the new film feature OG Beetlejuice stars Keaton, Ryder and O’Hara, it will also stay faithful to the first film in approach, as Keaton himself recently laid out in an interview. Speaking to Empire back in March, the Beetlejuice actor raved about the “handmade” quality of the effects work in Beetlejuice 2:
“Beetlejuice is the most f–kin’ fun you can have working. It’s so fun, it’s so great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie. There’s a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line – I want people to know this because I love it – tugging on the tail of a cat to make it move.”
Having been criticized for years for an over-reliance on CGI in his Disney blockbusters, Burton is responding by making Beetlejuice 2 the old-fashioned way. This comes as great news for those who enjoy the visual style of Burton’s early works, with their quirky art direction, costume design, visual effects and other decidedly Burton-esque elements. Hopefully, the theft of an important object from the set of Beetlejuice 2 won’t impact the production too severely.
