De Grandes Espérances (2023)

De Grandes Espérances movie storyline. Summer 2019. Having just graduated from Sciences Po, Madeleine leaves to prepare for the ENA oral exams in Corsica with Antoine, her lover with whom she shares very left-wing political beliefs. She comes from a very modest background (motherless and absent father) while he is the son of a rich lawyer. A dinner at this Corsican house of Antoine’s father allows Madeleine to meet Gabrielle, former secretary of state of the Socialist Party1.

On a small deserted road, an unexpected encounter will seal the fate of Madeleine and Antoine. An altercation with a violent motorist turns into a tragedy. Their love is called into question. Madeleine shows resilience and accepts a position with Gabrielle. Antoine, for his part, shows cowardice and denies his political convictions.
