High Ground Movie Storyline. Set against the stunning landscapes of 1930s Arnhem Land, High Ground chronicles young Aboriginal man Gutjuk, who in a bid to save the last of his family teams up with ex-soldier Travis to track down Baywara – the most dangerous warrior in the Territory, who is also his uncle. As Travis and Gutjuk journey through the outback they begin to earn each other’s trust, but when the truths of Travis’ past actions are suddenly revealed, it is he who becomes the hunted.

High Ground is a 2020 Australian meat pie Western film directed by Stephen Maxwell Johnson. It premiered at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival on February 23, 2020 with a gala screening, and was selected for the Berlinale Special section. The film was originally slated for release in Australia on July 9, 2020.

This was later changed to early 2021, until a further announcement on October 1, 2020 revealed the Brisbane International Film Festival would host the Australian premiere. It was also shown in the Adelaide Film Festival from October 17, with several extra sessions added to the original schedule. The film was released theatrically in Australia on January 20, 2021 by Madman Films and on May 7, 2021 in the United States.

First screened as part of the lottery west film festival in Perth, Australia. The setting was an open air theater in Somerville UWA with a near full capacity which is quite remarkable as there are not too many places in the world which can host large crowds due to the pandemic.
