Human Capital Movie Storyline. Drew (Liev Schreiber) is a real estate agent who lands in the middle of that continuum. He’s smarter than most guys but not smart enough to see the pit he’s about to fall into. Drew’s daughter Shannon (Maya Hawke) is a high school senior who’s in a failing relationship with the academic superstar son of a hedge fund manager, Quint Manning (Peter Sarsgaard).
This connection leads to Drew and Quint becoming tennis doubles partners and gives Drew the chance to invest in what looks like a financial sure thing. Unfortunately for Drew, a man who’s loaded by working class Brooklyn standards but a pauper by Quint’s, doesn’t have the minimum $300,000 required to purchase one share. So he hustles and lies to scrounge up the funds.
Human Capital is a 2019 American-Italian drama film directed by Marc Meyers. It is based on the 2004 Stephen Amidon novel of the same name, which was also adapted into the 2013 Italian film by Paolo Virzì. It stars Liev Schreiber, Marisa Tomei, Peter Sarsgaard, Maya Hawke, Alex Wolff, Betty Gabriel, Aasif Mandvi, Paul Sparks and Fred Hechinger.
The film premiered on September 10, 2019 at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was released through DirecTV Cinema on February 20, 2020, before being theatrically released on July 17, 2020, by Vertical Entertainment.
It was announced in October 2018 that Liev Schreiber and Alex Wolff were cast to star in the film, with Marc Meyers directing. Filming began in New York City in November, with Marisa Tomei, Peter Sarsgaard, Maya Hawke and Betty Gabriel also joining. Paul Sparks, Aasif Mandvi and Fred Hechinger were added in December. The film was produced by Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler of Maven Pictures and Bert Marcus of Bert Marcus Film.
Human Capital had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2019. Shortly after, Vertical Entertainment and DirecTV Cinema acquired distribution rights to the film. It was released through DirecTV Cinema on February 20, 2020, followed by a limited theatrical release on July 17, 2020.
