King Richard Movie Storyline. Will Smith’s new comedy movie King Richard tells the determination and fortitude of Williams, who trained his two daughters to play tennis, beginning on cracked courts in Compton, California, to later coaching them to Grand Slam wins and shaping them into two of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

This is true-life story of Richard Williams, the father of tennis greats Venus and Serena Williams. Reinaldo Marcus Green is directing the drama, which is now in production in Los Angeles with a cast that also includes Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton as Venus and Serena, respectively. Aunjanue Ellis and Jon Bernthal are co-starring, along with Liev Schreiber.

King Richard is an American biographical drama film directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Zach Baylin. The film follows Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams. It stars Will Smith, Aunjanue Ellis, Saniyya Sidney, Demi Singleton, Mikayla Lashae Bartholomew, Tony Goldwyn, Jon Bernthal, and Dylan McDermott.

It is scheduled to be released on November 19, 2021, by Warner Bros. Pictures, as well as a month-long simultaneous release on the HBO Max streaming service.

The project was announced in March 2019, with Will Smith set to play Williams in the film, written by Zach Baylin.[3] At the same time, Warner Bros. won the bidding war for the film.[4] Reinaldo Marcus Green was brought on as director in June.[5]

In January 2020, Demi Singleton and Saniyya Sidney were cast to play Serena and Venus respectively, with Aunjanue Ellis cast as their mother Brandi Williams. Jon Bernthal also entered negotiations to play Rick Macci. In February 2020, Liev Schreiber and Susie Abromeit joined the cast. In March 2020, Dylan McDermott, Katrina Begin and Judith Chapman had joined the cast of the film.

Principal photography began in January 2020 in Los Angeles. According to the California Film Commission, the production spent $35.6 million in the state, with $7.5 million returned in tax credits. In October 2020, Tony Goldwyn joined the cast of the film, replacing Schreiber who dropped out due to a scheduling conflict as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, before the resuming of filming later in the month.
