My Last Best Friend follows the story of two men posing as one, played by Eric Roberts. New York City. March – April 2020. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, two men, both named Walter Stoyanov, watch their lives getting turned upside down, as one of them falls ill and the other one is being investigated by FBI Special Agent John McCallany.
In Filippo M. Prandi’s My Last Best Friend, Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts portrays two identical men living together as their worlds fall apart. Set in the not so distant past, the mysterious drama follows Walter Stoyanov (Roberts), a man living a secretive existence in New York during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. To outsiders, Walter is just one man, but there’s more to Walter than meets the eye. The trailer, which you can watch below, invites audiences to meet the film’s protagonist, and seconds later introduces his best friend, who is also Walter Stoyanov.
While it’s a peculiar set up, the two men cohabitate with just one interacting with the outside world at a time. The situation begins to present problems as one Walter is being investigated by FBI Special Agent John McCallany (portrayed by Rico Simonini) and the other falls ill and is subsequently diagnosed with COVID-19.
Besides Roberts and Simonini, the film stars model and actress Carol Alt. In an interview with Union News Daily, Alt spoke about the process of making the film. Not only is the film set in a pandemic world, shooting took place in the midst of Covid-19. Model and actress Carol Alt, who stars in the film alongside Roberts and Simonini, discussed what it was like making the movie during an interview for Union News Daily. Alt says that while filming was “very restrictive” due to ongoing protocols, the cast and crew were able to make it work.
My Last Best Friend is an American drümü film directed by Filippo M. Prandi and starring Shea Whigham, Olivia Munn, Zach Avery, Bruce Dern, Frank Grillo, Keith David, Taryn Manning, Mark Boone Junior, Jessica Medina, Taegen Burns, Jay Hieron and Alexander Wraith. The screenplay, written by Alexander Felix and originally titled Where Angels Die, was included in the 2013 Black List.
