The Electric State movie storyline. Set in a retro-futuristic past, the sci-fi adaptation of Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel follows Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown), an orphaned teenager who traverses the American West in search of her younger brother. Joining her on the journey is a sweet but mysterious robot and an eccentric drifter.
The Electric State is an upcoming American science fiction adventure film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It is based on the picture book of the same name by Simon Stålenhag. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Jason Alexander, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Giancarlo Esposito, Anthony Mackie, and Billy Bob Thornton.
Following their work on The Gray Man and Extraction, The Electric State continues Joe and Anthony Russo’s partnership with Netflix through their production company AGBO. Although there’s no release date yet, production is set to begin this fall. With an A-list cast featuring everyone from a martial arts and multiverse maven to the world’s favorite forearm-bearing actor and cookbook writer, let the futuristic adventures begin.
Principal photography began in October 2022 in Atlanta, under the working title Stormwind. On November 4, 2022, film production was temporarily paused after a crew member working on the film died in a car crash off-set. Filming officially wrapped in early February 2023. The Electric State is scheduled to be released in 2024, by Netflix.
