The Hunting Movie Storyline. When a mysterious animal attack leaves a mutilated body in the forest, a conservative smalltown detective must enlist the help of an eager wildlife specialist to uncover the dark and disturbing truth that threatens the town.
The Hunting doesn’t have a big budget and it doesn’t try to bite off more than it can chew, rather than rely on a CGI creature that just wouldn’t look right, The Hunting opts more for a half-man/ half-wolf creature which works entirely effectively in the stories narrative and makes for a more believable wolf-esque story.
The story opens on an eerie lake and we get our opening kill, which sets the pace for the movie. The Huntings two leads Peyton Hillis (in his first movie/leading role) and Joelle Westwood, turn in solid performances. Peyton is a tough small-town cop who is trying to track down ‘whoever’ is responsible for the killings, Joelle Westwood is on hand as a wolf expert who lends her expertise to the police department and teams up with Peyton’s character to solve the crimes.
The Hunting has quite an intriguing back story for both of our main characters, action fans will be happy to see a flashback sequence to a war scene that features some gruesome explosions, I don’t want to spoil any of the major parts of the backstories of the characters, I will say there is a twist.
The Hunting is a fun horror movie with a solid cast, who deliver great performances. Writer/Director Mark Andrew Hamer leaves the door open for a sequel [maybe even franchising beyond werewolves] which would very much be welcome.
Overall, I would suggest giving The Hunting a viewing, there is no hammy looking werewolf, it’s all practical make-up and fits the narrative, in essence, it creates something which would be more of an authentic-looking creature in a modern-day setting.
