The Wrong Daughter movie storyline. Kate (Cindy Busby) and Joseph (Jon Prescott) have almost everything they need to make their life complete. They’re in love, successful, and Kate is finally fulfilling her dream to open a restaurant. There’s just one thing missing, a child. After multiple unsuccessful IVF attempts, they’ve finally given up on having a family of their own. But, there’s still one possibility, Kate gave up a child at 16.
She thought the baby went to a good home, but due to a medical issue, her baby was returned to foster care. Danica (Sierra Pond) has been living in group homes ever since. Unfortunately, she doesn’t live there alone. She shares a room with a troubled young woman named Samantha (Sydney Sweeney). Samantha has broken so many rules, she’s been asked to leave.
On her way out, she steals Danica’s laptop, and her identity. If Danica doesn’t want to reach out to her birth mother, Samantha will. She’s determined to have a family, and will remove anyone who stands in her way, including Danica. Will Kate realize she’s brought a homicidal maniac into her life in time to save those she loves?

About the Story
Kate is an entrepreneur, she is about to open a bistro together with her partner and friend Melissa, hers is a happy life except for one thing: she and her husband Joseph would like a child but all of Kate’s attempts to get pregnant have failed . She and Joseph decide to opt for a single solution, that is, to adopt Danica, Kate’s daughter, she gave birth to her during her adolescence, Kate’s was a large family and they could not take care of a little girl, in addition to the fact that not even her father’s family wanted to look after her, so they gave her up for adoption, and so far Danica has never found a family willing to look after her, she currently lives in a foster home.
Danica is a friendly, kind and responsible girl, the exact opposite of Samantha, her roommate, suffering from schizophrenia, a rebellious girl who rejects all rules and discipline, is incapable of taking responsibility, furthermore she doesn’t even take her medicines for the his personality disorder. By now Samantha has reached adulthood, the institute no longer wants to take care of her, also because it is impossible to manage her given her rebellious character, so they send her away, and Samantha steals Danica’s computer discovering that Kate is trying to get into contact with his daughter via chat.
Since Danica has never had the desire to track down her biological mother, she decides to pass herself off as her by visiting Kate and Joseph in their home, and the two are happy to give her hospitality, also because Samantha plays the part of the loving daughter well. If at the beginning Samantha wanted to manipulate Kate just to have a roof over her head, things will change when she begins to become morbidly attached to her, seeing her as the loving mother she never had. Only Melissa can see the girl’s lying and manipulative nature, Samantha enters the house of Ivan, Melissa’s boyfriend, and kills him by throwing him down the stairs.
Samantha, Kate and Joseph go on a trip to a house in the woods in search of serenity, but when Melissa discovers that Ivan is dead, she immediately understands that the killer is Samantha. Meanwhile, Danica, after discovering that Samantha has stolen her identity, calls her mother who had gone shopping to reveal that she is her real daughter and that Samantha has only lied to her. Kate immediately heads to the house in the woods, finding the body of a policeman who was there on a report and who Samantha killed, fortunately Joseph is fine.
